We use your information to provide, maintain, protect and improve the Site and Application and information you have requested from us. We also use the information to improve and protect our content, Site, Application and Service and provide an enhanced, personal experience for our users. The use of this information is also for security purposes, including detecting, preventing, and investigating prohibited activities or to protect our legal rights., as well as detecting, preventing and addressing technical issues with our Site, Application and/or Service.


Business Activities

We generally process and may disclose your Personal Information to others to:

Provide you with specific services covered under the terms of a contract with one or more of our Clients for example should you want some cinematography work, then we shall connect you directly with a vendor to provide such services;
Perform certain requests/transactions initiated by you;

Link App is based in the United States. If you are located in a jurisdiction outside the United States, the data protection laws in the United States may not be considered to provide an adequate level of protection under your local data protection laws. While Link App will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure your data is securely protection and in accordance with this Privacy Policy, your Personal Information, including Personal Data, may be transferred to and maintained on computers located outside of your governmental jurisdiction whether the data protection laws may differ from those from your jurisdiction.

If you are a user of the Application and/or Site and prefer not to have your Personal Information transferred to the United States, do not use the Application and/or Site. BeReal: Just hype or the next big thing?

While the attention of the industry has been focused on TikTok outperforming Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram, there's a new kid on the block, and its name is BeReal.

Considering the app's recent popularity, some may be surprised to hear it was actually founded over three years ago. After receiving $30 million in Series A funding in 2021, BeReal began using fraternity and sorority organizations across the U.S to create brand ambassadors to promote the app at parties and college events. 

Without a doubt, 2022 has been BeReal’s most successful year. Its rise to fame has grown exponentially, particularly in the last couple of months. In July, it was the #1 downloaded app in the App Store, reaching approximately 28 million downloads worldwide and 12.3 million in the United States alone.

But with so many trends and new apps popping up, will BeReal join TikTok as one of the trendiest social media platforms? Or will it have the same 15 minutes of fame as Clubhouse?

First, let's see what has the world buzzing

BeReal is labeled as "The anti-Instagram." This app answers Gen-Zs desire to be more candid and honest online.

The app sends users a notification with the message "Time to BeReal" at a random time during the day. Users then have two minutes to take a photo of what they are doing at that precise moment, with the image being captured simultaneously on the front and rear cameras. No editing or filters allowed—how novel.

 

But how do they really go about keeping it real? If people upload their BeReal at the wrong time, it will show that they uploaded it late. To avoid so-called “lurking”, you can't see other people's photos until you've uploaded your own, and you can also see if the photo was taken more than once. 

Photos are displayed in the feed, and friends can comment or react via "Realmojis," which are photos of each person's reactions and BeReal’s version of likes essentially.

Why is it called Gen-Z's new favorite app?

According to the platform data.ai, 55% of BeReal users in the U.S. are between 16 and 24 years old, putting the majority of users firmly in the Gen-Z range. 

The trend of younger generations not wanting to project a "perfect" image online is becoming more and more evident. This has been shown by the popularity of TikTok with its raw and relatable smart-phone based content. The complete opposite of what Instagram was—and still is—despite the attempts to distance itself from its highly edited and materialistic image.

Ironically enough, a lot of BeReal's success can be attributed to its popularity on TikTok. Its TikTok account currently has over 580 thousand followers, and its videos portray humorous situations in which someone is involved while using the app. At the same time, they are active in the comments section, engaging in the videos they are mentioned and making funny comments that drive traffic to their page.

For example, this video uploaded by the official BeReal account, featuring a group of friends in India, a country where BeReal isn’t yet widely known, has resulted in over 4 million views on that video alone.

The app’s popularity has even reached the world of celebrities through fan interactions. During his performance at the Sziget festival, singer Lewis Capaldi picked up a fan's phone to take a picture. When he realizes it's a BeReal he says, "I got the notification a while ago... Not very real," in response to the fact that the girl waited to take hers. Resulting in many people searching about BeReal online, curious to see what the fuss is all about. 

How is this business model sustainable?

If BeReal wants to become profitable, it will eventually have to start generating income by selling ads, subscriptions, or any other monetizing method.

But perhaps the biggest challenge BeReal faces is staying relevant in a world full of micro-trends. How does this app plan to keep its audience engaged? Particularly with the tendency of other apps to take inspiration (or rather steal) from popular app features and make them their own. 

Just a few weeks ago, tech leaker Alessandro Paluzzi broke the news that Instagram is allegedly working on an update called "Candid Challenge," which allows you to take a photo in a 2-minute timeline whenever a notification arrives at random… sound familiar? 

TikTok wasn't far behind on the copycat wagon with its recently announced "TikTok Now," a feature that operates just the same. While BeReal and TikTok share the same demographic, is this what users really want?

It's fair to say that people prefer to use certain platforms for different reasons, even if these share the same features. TikTok for entertainment and education, Instagram to showcase their lives, and BeReal, to share more candid versions of themselves, to name a few.

It seems that users are following this path, at least for now. Even with TikTok and Instagram's new mirroring features, they are sticking with BeReal for publishing and consuming authentic content. We've seen this before, Instagram did it to Snapchat and TikTok, just as Twitter did to ClubHouse. Is it happening again with BeReal?

Despite the app having not yet announced ways to monetize, that hasn't stopped brands from joining in on the hype.

Chipotle, for example, posted a BeReal on their official account with a discount promo, promising a free entrée to the first 100 people who use it. The coupon codes were gone in minutes, and their profile gained 2,000 friends throughout the campaign - a small number compared to their 1.9 million TikTok followers.

The unpredictable nature of the platform makes it tough to plan content ahead of time. It does, however, allow marketers to be the first to test strategies to see what works best. Those who take the risk may pave the way for how businesses interact with users on the app moving forward!

Clearly, there is still room for rapid growth and scaling in social media, which can happen overnight on the internet. While BeReal might not have worked out exactly how to monetize their growing audience just yet, who knows what the future holds for this frontier in social media.
